An Old-Fashioned Christmas

Indian Head Christmas has always been a happy time and gives children stronger than expected. We did not start the season in November, as we do now, but made a point to put the artificial tree in front of the round of the employees started the parties. Dad would invite his Employees Credit Union for a meal and mother to make sure that teachers have the opportunity to celebrate the way in the middle of the school year and go to the house for a while '"Cheer" was. We alwaystried to guess who would be our Christmas, the first card and then when it arrived by mail, we would hang over the green and red wool, lived across the arch extra.

The crew hanging lights on Main Street Town. Stores have all the special foods, which appeared for only a few weeks a year. Mandarin oranges in boxes, barrels of candy and nut varieties that are cracked and needs have been bombarded by advertisements spaceddifferent types of chocolates in the box. I remember what we loved turtles were sold.

The Christmas concert was held on the Memorial Hall and participate in every instance. E 'was an attempt to ensure that hundreds more children have been involved in the winery fed properly and its release of two numbers at the appropriate time. I remember sixth grade our efforts, under the direction of Rose McLaughlin. Benny Friesen and Colleen Nichols, whowas just above the stage was a small child sitting in a red sleigh served as a prop for our interpretation of "Sleigh Ride". We wore our best clothes and some even had a little 'sparkle in her hair (like our eyes).

Pharmacies have corsages that were made to wear various ornaments and artificial or preserved on the collar of a winter coat. As kids, we track the reindeer and stars on colored paper and built snowmen in the playground. We also exchangedThe names with our classmates and then kept the secret to which we drew, how to discover what gift we could give that would bring joy and is still trying to stay within the price limit.

The community work together to ensure that every part was the emotion. It 'was to show Santa Clause Day at the theater, where every child received a bag of candy for free. The Moose Club and other service clubs surprised us with gifts sent (usually dressed in full Macdonald Buchred suit and white beard).

The Salvation Army was collecting for the poor with its bell ringing and singing in the street. We have provided cakes to shut-ins, poinsettias to friends and boxes of oranges for the family we thought it could not have. The CGIT had an evening service where we felt so ripe to go with lighted candles. Everybody has a smile and yelled "Merry Christmas", even people who do not know, because someone scores.

Why Momwas a teacher, would come home on the last day of school with chocolates, jewelry and cards from grateful families. He had given each of his students a bookmark with the words "Silent Night". We do not seem to get the snow these days, as it came to their hope. And there was always lots of it. We had to pull out of the outdoor track Dixon Park before we go and skate the old ice rink for free skating. One or two adults were alwaysThere is only one child to go to another to ensure that the link was made skate. We went around and around - always clockwise to the songs played on the turntable.

Finally it was Christmas Eve and we went through falling snow, the United Church for a service that people had packed. Outside-size nativity scene that had some of the men of the church was built remembered the reason for the season. Inside the organ and voicesfilled the church after after Carol Carol Carol. We always ended the service with soft lights and sounds of "Silent Night", with four parts that touch the soul. We hung stockings, even though we knew there was a fireplace and really anyone, but our parents to visit at night. Simply do not want to admit that we had this wisdom, in the case of the tradition stopped. And on Christmas morning, there was always an orange and peanuts in shell, and aCandy Cane found in this sock.

I do not really believe in all those gifts we have received over the years. Sometimes there were some gems from the market this year or skates or sled to get. What I remember are the beautiful memories that were in a community where you are cared for each other and wanted to celebrate the fact that Jesus was born format. Thanks, Indian Head, for these memories. Good wonderful holiday season!
