In the James River and through the woods of Dinwiddie County grandmother's house we went on holiday. The pecan pie was alone worth the trip!
My grandmother, "Meme", pecan pie recipe found in the Progress-Index on Wednesday, 26 Printed in February 1964 and was known as "Mrs. Landon B. Johnson 's Favorite Pie" (typos and all). The recipe is really a masterpiece of Zephyr Wright, the Johnson family, the chef of the White House.
White House PecanCake
02:01 Cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
2.1 teaspoons salt
1 1 / 2 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
shell pasta cooked ribs in a baking dish or 9-inch pie plate
Let the butter in a covered bowl at medium temperature allowed to stand until it is very soft. Sugar, corn syrup, salt and vanilla, with a strong hand rotary beater or a spoon, beat mixture until thoroughly mixed. Add eggs and beatgently just until blended. Fold in pecans. Pour into pastry shell. Bake is brown in a moderate (375 degrees) on the frame just below the upper half of rotary kiln roast stuffed and put in the center of the cake, when it is shaken gently - about 40-50 minutes.
Pastry should be browned and the bottom edge of the sheet of pale gold. If the cake is very dark at the top end of cooking time, put a tent of foil over. Cool on a rack. If desired, serve with whipped cream without sugar.
I doThis cake every Thanksgiving and Christmas, because there is absolutely precious, and evokes memories of holidays spent in VA's Farm Meme for Ford.
Enjoy!
